Bandung Day Trip from Jakarta: Full Guide

2026-07-09

Tea plantation in the Puncak highlands, on the route between Jakarta and Bandung

How far is Bandung from Jakarta?

Bandung sits about 150 km southeast of Jakarta, in the cool highlands of West Java. By car via the Padaleunyi toll road, the drive takes roughly 2.5-3 hours each way depending on traffic — longer on weekends and public holidays when the route gets busy with fellow day-trippers.

Since 2023, the Jakarta–Bandung Whoosh high-speed rail has cut the journey to around 45 minutes between Halim (Jakarta) and Tegalluar/Padalarang (Bandung). It's the fastest option on paper, but it drops you at a station outside the city center — you'll still need a car to actually reach Bandung's attractions from there.

Is a day trip to Bandung realistic?

Yes, but only if your transport is sorted before you leave. With a private driver, a single day is enough to comfortably cover 2-3 major stops — that's exactly how our Bandung City Tour is built: Gedung Sate, Tangkuban Perahu, and Trans Studio Bandung, all in one day, with hotel pickup and drop-off included.

Trying to do it with public transport and ride-hailing apps between stops usually eats too much of the day in waiting and transfers — which is the main reason most day-trippers from Jakarta book a car with driver rather than piecing the trip together themselves.

A sample one-day itinerary

  • Morning: Depart Jakarta early (05:00-06:00) to beat traffic on the toll road, arriving in Bandung by mid-morning.
  • Midday: Visit Tangkuban Perahu for the volcanic crater views and cooler mountain air.
  • Afternoon: Head into the city for Gedung Sate and a stop at Trans Studio Bandung.
  • Evening: Return drive to Jakarta, arriving back by night.

Have a question about your trip?

What to bring and know before you go

  • Bandung's highland air is noticeably cooler than Jakarta — bring a light jacket, especially for Tangkuban Perahu.
  • All Alfathan itineraries are built with prayer-time-aware scheduling and halal-only stops, so a day trip works for Muslim travelers without extra planning.
  • Confirm your exact pickup time and location with our team in advance — weekend toll traffic can shift the schedule by an hour or more.
