2026-08-29

Update, 29 August 2026: No confirmed launch date yet for international flights — this page will be updated the moment one is announced. Below is the latest verified status.

Husein Sastranegara Airport (BDO) in Bandung does not yet have international flights. It reopened for domestic service on 17 August 2026, and is separately planned to gain international airport status with routes to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur — but that status has not been officially confirmed, and no airline has announced a firm start date.

When will international flights start?

There's no confirmed date yet. Two different estimates have circulated:

  • TransNusa's Group CEO stated in July 2026 that international flights were targeted for mid-to-late September 2026 [1].
  • A more recent government estimate from August 2026 points to October 2026, since the regulatory approval process for the routes is still ongoing [2].

The official international airport status designation itself — a required step before any international route can legally operate — is expected to be announced in October 2026 [3][4]. Until that happens, treat any specific date as unconfirmed.

Planned international routes

Destination Airline(s) that applied Status
Singapore Scoot Route application submitted, pending approval [2][5]
Kuala Lumpur TransNusa Route application submitted, pending approval [2][5]
Johor Bahru TransNusa Route application submitted, pending approval [2][5]

AirAsia and Malindo Air have also been reported as exploring routes to/from Husein Sastranegara, though neither has filed a formal application confirmed in current reporting [2].

Why this matters for travelers from Singapore and Malaysia

Right now, flying into Bandung means landing at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport first, then a 3-3.5 hour overland transfer to Bandung — or flying into Kertajati Airport (BIJB), which is still a 2-2.5 hour drive from the city. If the Singapore and Kuala Lumpur routes are confirmed, Husein Sastranegara sits only about 5 km from central Bandung — a 15-30 minute airport transfer instead of hours on the road. For travelers from Singapore and Malaysia specifically, this would mean landing directly in Bandung with no Jakarta transit at all.

Frequently asked questions
